Statutory Performance Data
Statutory assessments are national checks that all children in England take at key points during their primary school education. They help teachers, parents, and schools understand how children are progressing in their learning and identify areas where extra support may be needed.
Key statutory assessments include:
Reception – Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Profile
Assesses children’s development across areas such as communication, literacy, maths, and personal, social, and emotional skills. Achieving a Good Level of Development (GLD) shows that a child is ready for Year 1.Year 1 – Phonics Screening Check
A short check to ensure children can read words using phonics knowledge, including both real and nonsense words. Children who need extra support can retake the check in Year 2.Year 4 – Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)
A timed online assessment to check children’s recall of multiplication tables up to 12 × 12, supporting future success in maths.Year 2 & Year 6 – SATs
Standard Assessment Tests measure children’s skills in reading, writing, maths, and grammar, punctuation, and spelling (GPS). Writing is teacher-assessed. These results give a snapshot of each child’s learning at the end of Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
It is important to remember that statutory assessments are only one part of a child’s learning journey. They provide valuable information but do not define a child’s overall potential or achievements. Our school uses these assessments to support every child’s progress, ensure they build confidence in their learning, and celebrate their successes.
