Key Stage 2 SAT

What are KS2 SATs?

KS2 SATs (Key Stage 2 Standard Assessment Tests) are national tests taken by children in Year 6. They provide a snapshot of how well children have learned the core skills in reading, writing, maths, and grammar, punctuation, and spelling (GPS) during their time in primary school.

The tests usually take place in May and include:

  • Reading – Children read a range of texts and answer questions to show their understanding.

  • Mathematics – Questions cover arithmetic, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.

  • Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling (GPS) – Tests knowledge of sentence structure, punctuation, spelling rules, and grammar.

Writing is teacher-assessed and not formally tested through a SATs paper.

The results help teachers, parents, and schools understand each child’s progress and identify areas where extra support may be needed. While SATs are important, they are just one part of a child’s overall learning journey and do not define a child’s ability or potential.

Children are supported throughout the process, and we focus on ensuring they approach the tests with confidence and a positive attitude toward learning.
