EYFS: GLD
What does GLD show? (Good Level of Development)
At the end of the Reception year, children are assessed against the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. The Good Level of Development (GLD) shows how well a child has progressed in their early learning and whether they have reached the expected level for their age.
A child achieves GLD when they are working at the expected level in:
Communication and Language
Physical Development
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Literacy
Mathematics
GLD is important because it indicates that a child has the key skills, knowledge and understanding needed to make a confident start in Year 1. These include early reading and writing skills, number understanding, the ability to communicate effectively, and the confidence to learn, play and work with others.
It is important to remember that every child develops at their own pace. GLD is just one measure of progress and does not define a child’s overall potential or future success.
